Hello, I'm Dr. Katherine Bacon!
I am a distinguished professional in counseling with a PhD in counselor education and supervision. I am a licensed professional counselor board-approved supervisor, a nationally certified counselor, a tenured university professor, and the executive director and founder of the Parris Foundation. With over 30 years of experience, I am a leading advocate for human rights and disadvantaged populations, securing over $35 million in grants to support underserved communities.
My extensive background includes serving as the Immediate Past-President of the Texas Counseling Association and as the legislative liaison to the Texas State Board of Professional Counselors. My expertise in interdisciplinary team training is particularly notable. I have a proven track record in developing and leading training programs that integrate diverse professional perspectives, fostering collaboration among teams comprising mental health professionals, educators, and advocacy specialists.
My personal connection to the foster care system and leadership in various advocacy and support initiatives, such as the Parris Foundation, have equipped me with unique insights into the challenges faced by vulnerable populations. Under my leadership, the foundation has expanded its reach through grants for crime victim advocacy and TRIO programs, enabling comprehensive training and support services.
My career reflects an unwavering commitment to advocacy, community upliftment, and interdisciplinary collaboration, making me an exceptional leader in training and mentoring interdisciplinary teams.
Let's work together to unlock your potential and achieve your goals.

Executive and Fiduciary Training: Are you a nonprofit executive or fiduciary in need of financial training? Are you looking for financial training for yourself or for volunteer finance committee members? I can help. I’ve attended too many financial trainings facilitated by bookkeepers and accountants who, despite their expertise, struggle to explain these concepts to non-finance people. Additionally, they often lack the advanced budgeting and fiscal management expertise they claim to have. I have a proven track record of explaining these concepts clearly and providing practical application scenarios for fiduciaries without formal backgrounds in accounting and finance.
Granular Training for Executive Transitions: If you’re a nonprofit executive who needs additional granular training and support due to a transition from one type of exempt organization, such as moving from a 501(c)(6) to a 501(c)(3), or if your nonprofit is adding new revenue sources that require different financial monitoring, such as adding grant funding, I can provide the specialized training and support you need to succeed.
